Since I'm guessing that the majority of you are american based. Tell plain words, about America, maybe just you're state. It can be about anything, random or factual.
I honestly don't know much about america, except general geography things (Australian geography).
A friend of mine wants me to go to America on my gap year, but I wanted to get a feel for the place before deciding anything.

Well.... it's pretty varied. There are beautiful mountains in some parts and ugly cities in others. Some places rain all year, some are dry and hot.

Honestly, I want to know about Australia!

America is actually considered the most diverse place on the planet when it comes to climate.

Other than that - Culture often depends on where you are. We have our own "belts," - like corn, bible, etc.

And we even have cities that are only on the map because someone wrote a book about them.

Something I find funny though is to hear what others "learn" about America. . So funny. Apparently our weird pop culture seems to make an example of an image of us. In reality we're far from that image.

( skinny rich people who party all the time, have soo many heartbreaking relationships, and seem to either know nothing or a whole lot )

Otherwise, America is a GREAT place, really. . . I'm quite glad I am here with my current freedoms (but yes I am one of those people who are starting to question some of our claimed freedoms) and am certainly glad I have the wealth, family, and "democracy" I have now.

Well, It's mostly flat compared to other oversea countries...
We have snow, but little of it..
We have good beaches..
pretty dry, most of the time

but it varied too

I live in the foothills of California, just below the Sierra Nevadas which is a beautiful Mountain range inland from the West Coast. There was a huge Gold Rush in California (and Alaska) in the 1800s and 1900's that led hundred of thousands of people to travel on horse back and wagon train to come out west and live in tent camps and shanty towns in the hopes of finding gold. Very few did but the population of the West Coast took off. There is thousands of years of history and every possible climate and people group and religion here. It would take a life time to tell it all.

Why don't you tell us about the thing that interest you and we could answer that way.

The truth is, by giving me anything, I can get more feel of the place.
Media only paint negative, stereotypic and confusing things about it..

Today I drove 2 hours and surfed the pacific, a nice 85 F, tomorrow I can drive 45 mins up a mountain and go sledding, however my home is in the desert. I think CA has the most varied terrain of the states, and the proximity to reach several bio systems in a day. Most of what you hear about us comes for 3 places, San Fransisco & Silicon Valley (ultra liberal, ultra brainy, expensive as all heck), Los Angles (Crime, poverty, hollywood & beverly hills), and San Diego (Surfers, tacostands on the beach, and everyone's ultra-fit and ultra laid back). However huge pockets (geographically) are quite consertive, and the state seems divided by the ortega mountains, head east it's mini-bible belt, head west and it's free love. However no one here seems in-between for long.

Iowa is flat and we usually get a few weeks of very hot humid summers and very cold winters......and we grow lots of corn. Yep

And weather can vary a lot in spring, it was in the 60's today and now its kind of snowing...yay..cold and wet now.
