Please Explain America For Me..

Think of America like a huge buffet. There is a little bit of everything imaginable! Do you like cities? Rural areas? Farming? Night life? Shopping? History? Then you can narrow down the states to the cities. You will not be bored here, that is for sure. Good luck deciding what you want to do as the choices are far and wide.

I live in Mississippi, which is largely an agriculteral state. MS has the second largest cotton production is the U.S. but we also yield important harvests of corn, peanuts, pecans, rice, sugar cane, and sweet potatoes as well as poultry, eggs, meat animals, dairy products, feed crops, and horticultural crops. Mississippi remains the world's leading producer of pond-raised catfish. We also have a large industrial influence here. Tupelo, MS is the birth place of Elvis Presley and every year we have all sorts of Elvis festivals and such honoring that. We are home to several major universities. We are considered the bible belt. We have mild winters and hellacious summers. In the wintertime we usually average temps in the high 20's F to mid 30's F and in the Summer we average mid 90's F with humidity so high the sky is just hazy. MS is a gorgeous state with all the native plants and trees we have. THere are parts of the state with rolling hillsides, and there are parts that are pretty flat. We also have the MS river and several other rivers that run through the state. We have an over abundance of wildlife, especially white tailed deer, and are fortunate to have long hunting seasons with generous bag limits on wild game. We also have an abundance of mosquitos that are the size of bats. There is nothing prettier than a MS Summer night, where the sweet smell of honeysuckle is in the air and the sound of the frogs and crickets singing in the night. We are all pretty laid back,, never getting in a rush abot nothing. We don't have to know you to wave at you when we meet you driving down the highway, that's just how we are. We also love some sweet tea, and will insist that you stay for supper anytime you visit and won't take no for an answer. I believe MS is one of the prettiest states we have.

Where I am at we don't have many trees....those are usually only found in the small towns and old homesteads. Our area produces wheat, corn, and milo (sorghum). We also have large numbers of feedlots (several hundred thousand on feed in the area) we also are a major producer of pork....couple of the largest companies are located out here.

the ground seems flat but in reality it gentle rolls and when the wind blows through the wheat it looks like waves (it really doeas i grew-up on the coast) It gets darn hot in the summer and stupid cold in the winter but on average we have the same temp as Hawaii! only it is never average

on a typical drvie to school for us we see pheasant, deer, pronghorn, and lots of rabbits.

the wind blows fairly non-stop so they are starting to build many wind generators...but we need higher oil prices to make that work economically. the wind also moves what snow we get around...alot...and causes the tumbleweeds to pile up on fences.

folks are independent and friendly

hope you enjoy your visit...I would love to go to Australia....but Africa is first on my list....

I live in Louisiana....We like the rest of the country to think we are slow and bassackward....so we can have the state to ourselves! One thing I've found in traveling north, east and west is that every touristy place you come to has someone who will sell you "the best fudge ever made"........

I always wonder why fudge? Why not fried chicken or chocolate chip cookies?

I've live in Illinois my entire life. It is so much more than Chicago and bad politics. We have land so flat you can see for miles and miles in the central part of the state. We also have the rolling hills and trees in the northwest part of the state, craigy bluffs along the Mississippi river, and caves, bluffs and magnificent trees in the south. Corn, soybeans and livestock can be found throughout the state. We experience cold harsh winters in the north, less cold and snowy winters in the middle and mild winters in the south. Since Illinois is so long our top part is almost a different climate than the bottom part. Summers are generally hot and humid, especially along the rivers. We are rich in history all across the state. We are an agricultural state with a few larger cities. Of course, Chicago offers all sorts of wonderful experiences from museums to concerts to sports.

I live in South Central Alaska.
Summers are fabulous. And yes, we are able to grow huge veges!
In this portion of Alaska, the sun does set at night, but it really just dips away for an hour, so it never gets dark.
We still get the same amount of light and dark that the rest of the world gets, its just split up different.
In the winter, the darkest days still have 6-7 hours of light.

Throught the winter, we get several feet of snow, and there is usually a month or so, where the temps dip down to 30 below.
Otherwise, our climate here is much like Northern Minnesota.

We have lots of mountains. Excellent fishing.

And we live just like the rest of the US. We do not live in Igloos

If I had the money to shop at Saks 5th Avenue, all I have to do is drive down to Anchorge.

see now I have been in Des Moines,Iowa City, waterloo and Rock Rapids and I would call Iowa rolling hills, not flat,,you want to see flat go to the Red River Valley in MN/ND..or try growing up in Thief River Falls MN..one time we had a new art teacher and she had us all do a landscape, she was like "what is wrong with you kids"..the whole class made a flat boring field and tree picture..because thats all we new growing up so we thought the whole world was that way I guess..the rest of MN is beautiful..just not so much the ancient lake bottom part of the state

Oklahoma is a people place, you don't meet a stranger. Every one waives. If you could only here me say this I have that very good Okie slang draw way of talking.

This is where we live, on a big cattle ranch in New Mexico (but I grew up in England). It's probably not all that different from some parts of Australia, it is desert.
