Please give me advice!

That is so sad to think that poor duck could be laying over there suffering. But def don't go over there.

Please keep us updated. :fl

He's been caught! My mom has actually decided she's too attached and wants to keep him, so we are going to make an actual duck set up and get him a couple friends so he can stay with us but be safe and happy. I didn't think keeping him was an option but my mom loves him too much. Thank you all for your help!

Do you know for sure it is a drake?
Yes! His tail curls up and the person we got him from said he was a boy. He had also been living with another male for the past year in the lake and there was no breeding or anything. Would him being a male cause any issues? We are researching a lot to properly care for him but I am still missing lots I'm sure.

No issues, just wanted to be sure. If you get another male, they could fight during breeding season (now until fall?) It is usually not bad, but can be depending on the males.
But, with females, you should get him at least 3 otherwise he can overmate just 1.
When you get a chance, post a pic of him!

We have dogs in our fenced in yard so he comes up to eat just outside of it. I have known it is unsafe for them out there and I have constant anxiety about it. My neighbor releases Rouens into his lake and he just lets them die, doesn't feed them or anything, just drops them in and sometimes they don't even make it a day. He told us we shouldn't care so much about them and you can just get new ducks. It has caused a lot of fights and he's even called the police on me for trespassing a foot onto his property to feed them. He set up cameras and everything. When we moved here there were 3 and 2 ended up dying so my mom got the Pekin for him to not be alone, which was not a good idea but it happened and now I need to find a new place for him. I will definitely look into those options you gave me. Thank you so much.
Ugh. Why oh why oh why do people have to be so. .. . (insert your choice of insult here)
Your neighbor needs a good :smack:smack:smack

And ya, totally good intentions with the Pekin . . but I can see how that didn't work out so well. :hugs

You all are so kind. We now have him set up in our extra garage with lots of fans, towels lining most of the floor, a food bowl, water bowl, and a kiddie pool with a ramp he's already been going in and out of. We plan on letting him have several hours each day free roaming our fenced backyard once he settles. My mom wanted me to ask for advice for what other ducks should we get for him. She knows at Rural King they have younger ducklings, but I don't know if older males do well with smaller ducks and I don't want them to get hurt. I think for now we would only want to get one more ideally, but if we need to get 3 girls or something we would if it was best. If we got him just one other male like he was living with before, do you think they'd fight even though they're not around females? Sorry for the novel and thanks for all of your help and kindness!

Sounds great. You won't be able to sex ducklings at rural king. If you do get ducklings, they need to be kept separate until feathered and look like an adult because your drake will want to mate or could potentially kill a duckling. A look don't touch set up would be best in that situation.
With that said, you could get adult ducks from craigslist or even through your local state thread here on byc. It would be the easiest and quickest to find him some friends.
