Please give me thoughts on my Coop!

Ok....I'll look into something stronger for the down stairs.

As for the ladder...the ladder is for the chickens. I have a door both upstairs and downstairs. The upstairs door I open to get the eggs.

As for putting boards on the top level, I'm not sure. The chicks seem to be pretty happy. San Diego just isn't that cold...even at night.

I love that! I've been planning to give away the play structure in my backyard on Freecycle to make room for the chickens, but I think I would just be getting rid of a good basic coop structure. I think by repurposing the play structure, you have reused good materials in a spectacular way. Agree with others on the chicken wire--learned that with a raccoon and Thumper the rabbit (RIP).

In SD, I agree that you probably don't need to worry about getting too cold for the chickens. I'm in Oregon, so I will need enclose my "upstairs" into a warmer (but ventilated) area for nighttimes. Do the chicken have any problem with the steepness of the ramp up to the 2nd story?

Thanks for the great idea! Off to the drawing boards...

Does anyone else have cedar trees? I have VERY large cedars right near where my coop/run is (or was, depending). I know cedar shavings are harmful to chickens--poultry in general--but is it okay for me to keep them by the cedars? I have heard some people say they've found their chickens roosting in their cedar tree, but I want to make sure it's not harmful to the birds.

Thanks

Great suggestions to all. Thank you.

I'm going to Home Depot today to get some better wiring, and some plywood to solidify the top deck..

I'll post pics when I'm all done.
