Please give me thoughts on my Coop!

If the predator is an escaped circus bear that has it's teeth & claws removed you might be right.

Anything else from dog to raccoon, will tear that up in seconds.

Chicken wire is good for keeping chickens contained, not much else.

Since you asked, there is a door on the bottom and a door on the top floor. I can get the eggs from the roosts from the top floor.

As for containing the top floor with plywood. I don't think I need to do it. The girls seem to be good. They are perching on their perches just fine. When the time comes to roost...well that will be the test!

There is no way a dog could chew through this wire. I have two dogs and there is just no way.

Wow, I allways heard the stories about chicken wire being ripped through. But I have never seen the pics. that is scary. I have allways used hardware cloth. More expensive in the get go but worth it.

Friends used our property to raise some meat chickens. They made the pen with chicken wire.My chihuahua [no kidding] tore through it and killed over half the chickens. It really doesn't hold up well to a determined animal.

I agree with everyone else. It looks like it could be problamatic if there is rain or chilly temperatures. Ditto to the egg concern: it might be a pain to have to climb a ladder just to get a few eggs.

Otherwise, looks great and very resourceful!!!

I had already written about our chihuahua tearing through chicken wire before I read this. I would never have believed it either, but we caught him in the pen with over 70 dead chickens .He tore at it with his teeth till it gave.I wish I had pictures, but I was devastated.First I thought the chickens were secure and second I would not have expected my chihuahua to be the chicken killer.Believe me ,he's tried again.
I'm just giving you the benefit of my experience, but it's your call. Each of us make choices every day on how to best care for our chicks and we all do it differently.
Great use of the playset. I love to see things repurposed!
