I had 5 chicks. They all were doing fine and well. We built the coop outside and after 7 weeks put them outside but kept them in the hen house with heat lamp. There was places for them to be in shade and places for warmth i followed the directions for house building very carefully. No treated wood good ventilation etc... i put pine shavings down which was new they had been using a differet bedding. the 2nd day they were out there one chick died. two days later another one is lathargic and having trouble breathing. the other three chicks seem fine. dont know what to do. food has not changed when it is warmer out we let them run the yard and they have eaten worms and backyard bugs. but they are enclosed in our orchard.
update... i seperated the sick one and cleaned the coop. the three girls still seem fine. eating, drinking, and runing around like happy little chickens, but it clearly comes on really fast. i also put antibiotics in the water this evening and I am hoping that will help. Anyone know anything about this? Again, the symptoms for the sick one is that she can't seem to get up and her breathing is shallow and hoarse. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
