Please help!!! Angle wing?

Well I was going to respond about this being fallacy in addition to possibly bad advice.. but I see others have already stepped up with fantastic information.

Some well meaning folks might give poor advice. It's ALWAYS good to get a second opinion!

Most chick starter feeds are deficient in niacin for ducklings.. so unless duckling is literally listed on the feed direction or they have called the company and gotten nutrient information that is not listed on the bags or required to be by law.. only certain ones are.. they have simply either been lucky to not face issues OR didn't notice the issues.

But with all things genetics can not be dismissed. It's a wild card we generally don't know about.

But WHY would a person go to cutting in oats recommended by a new be and dismiss the more experienced person saying they don't see angel wing?? This dumbfounds me.. folks.. use YOUR best judgement and don't just jump on a suggestion without researching it! I understand we are all on a learning journey and being more experienced (according to post count anyways) doesn't mean I don't make mistakes. But why spend my time answering if so easily dismissed?! Well, I can't change the world, I guess.. Oh actually, come to think of it I see it all the time.. folks respond to what they WANT to hear and dismiss what doesn't fall in line with their current thought process or desire. Guess I still do it for those it MIGHT help when they come across it in the future!:pop

I fed Purina flock raiser 20% protein (it has 55mg/kg niacin, per a phone call to the company).. only.. no treats, no oats.. free range ..full time and never had any problems with my ducks facing angel wing.. which as far as I can tell may be caused by extra energy from ANY source even fat or carbs not just protein, COUPLED with genetic predisposition.

According to Metzer.. ducklings need 22% protein for a bit and if you feed lower like 20% should stay on it not less than 4 weeks before reducing protein...

Glad we are able to share information with and support each other! :wee
Ok thank you! You seem to know a lot. I wasn’t going to add oats because I was told that’s not worth it just buy a different t food if I want to decrease the protein amount. The bag of food I got from tractor supply says for ducks. Which is why I purchased it. I do think my duckling has angle wing but we are going to wait until the pin feathers are gone and she has gotten her flight feathers.

Keep an eye on those ones sticking out. Could easily tuck back in as the feathers grow out, but could also be an issue. You are doing right by keeping an eye on it before it gets too far to be fixed. :clap

You could go ahead and look up wraps. There are tons of different videos and pictorials on how to wrap. I only use vet wrap and tape on the wing only. I don’t wrap the whole body. But some prefer it. Mine free range during the day, so they get in water all the time. So I prefer just treating the wing itself. Others can keep them more immobilized, so a whole body wrap is fine. Up to you!

Feel free to spout your opinions over my experience any time you'd like.
I have found that by speaking from a position of experience, any resulting questions are much easier to answer.
Do your opinions work that way too?

I fail to catch your implication, suspecting it be not of friendly intent. But if it's actually constructive criticism that will help me grow, elaborate will ya?

I find that my opinions are based according to my experience and current understanding on whatever the situation being discussed is and that any resulting questions will be addressed with ease either way, because I'm confident in what little facts I do have and with the understanding that learning is ongoing process due to the nature of perception.

I also think YOUR OPINIONS are likely based according to YOUR understanding and experience which I presume to be DIFFERENT than my own, hello.. was it not an opinion that you expressed? Semantics! I gave links to accurate information.. So please..

My nature and my mind are still arrogant and immature and want to pick a fight, defend myself, blow my top, with tongue sticking out emoji's, etc.. :smack But my heart and my spirit know that would be idiocy at it's finest and there's enough drama already playing out daily with NO need for more adversaries or negative thought bringing bad hormones giving us all cancer.. WE are one big connected web and what effects one effects us all.. can't we pretend we don't see the President Elect's example and act like adults??? :gig

Uhhm.. listen, I'm sorry you dislike that I disagreed with you. If I was truly rude in any way.. I will be reviewing my post and considering what I can improve to be more "politically correct" and not step on the toes of those who may be feeling sensitive to my feedback... or if came off as completely directed at them. I understand.. that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

However, one of the main reasons I even joined is due to being tired of the much well meaning but truly terrible advice based on "what I've always did". Some works and some is straight hogwash.

Well, I guess that one hit two of my great passions in life.. avian nutrition and general misinformation. I seek the truth in EVERYTHING I do, even when it takes ongoing practice.. AND an open mind to get it right! :)

Again, I am sorry.. I am here to support you as well and will continue to be me, crappy quarks and all, as a contributing member of possibly different opinions and experiences than your own, to this amazing compassionate community! :hugs

Some folks might also consider growing a thicker a skin or adding a little Teflon so things can roll off a bit, we are all humankind doing our best and should have far more important thing to do than be offended that someone gave some good information but didn't say it in the exact right way... Anyways.. NO one I know of can please the whole world . :th

I don't speak unless I know.

Shouldn't take nine paragraphs to convey what one sentence will do nicely.
Yes, you're rude.

No, I don't have thin skin.
