I have a 3 month old buff polish chick that’s been sick for 5 days.
I found her In the coop just sitting and when I tried to get her to move she was limping on one leg. I quarantined her right away. It was a very humid and hot day so I thought maybe she was dehydrated. I gave her fresh water with hydro-hen 3-in-1. And medicated crumble feed. After 3 days I took her to the Avian vet. The vet took X-rays. Found that her right knee had inflammation in it and that she had no muscle on the right side. She gave her a 3 day dose of antibiotics. And told me to read up on Mereks disease. I did a ton of research. Found out that vitamin b deficits are quite common. So I bought vitamin b 12 and she has been on it for 2 days. The rest of my flock is normal. She ( affectionately named Polly) has been eating and drinking fine. Even tries to fly out of the animal hospital I put together. She hops with the other foot on top of her other one and even tries to roost on the feeder.
im wondering what anyone else’s guess is or if anyone has had this happen???? Vet is puzzled thought she would pass in 2 days wasn’t very hopeful. This chick is raised more fir pet than anything else. She only weighs 1.5 pounds right now. None of my feed had vitamin b in it.
mother question is should I put vitamin b12 in the water for entire flock as well??? New chicken owner. The flocks house is kept clean with new pine shavings every 2 days. Thank you in advance fir any help you can provide. Pictures of Polly below
