I have a 3 month old buff polish chick that’s been sick for 5 days.
I found her In the coop just sitting and when I tried to get her to move she was limping on one leg. I quarantined her right away. It was a very humid and hot day so I thought maybe she was dehydrated. I gave her fresh water with hydro-hen 3-in-1. And medicated crumble feed. After 3 days I took her to the Avian vet. The vet took X-rays. Found that her right knee had inflammation in it and that she had no muscle on the right side. She gave her a 3 day dose of antibiotics. And told me to read up on Mereks disease. I did a ton of research. Found out that vitamin b deficits are quite common. So I bought vitamin b 12 and she has been on it for 2 days. The rest of my flock is normal. She ( affectionately named Polly) has been eating and drinking fine. Even tries to fly out of the animal hospital I put together. She hops with the other foot on top of her other one and even tries to roost on the feeder.
im wondering what anyone else’s guess is or if anyone has had this happen???? Vet is puzzled thought she would pass in 2 days wasn’t very hopeful. This chick is raised more fir pet than anything else. She only weighs 1.5 pounds right now. None of my feed had vitamin b in it.
mother question is should I put vitamin b12 in the water for entire flock as well??? New chicken owner. The flocks house is kept clean with new pine shavings every 2 days. Thank you in advance fir any help you can provide. Pictures of Polly below

What are you feeding? Photo of the bag and label?

B12 is Cobalamin - what you want is B-Complex which usually contains 8 B vitamins.

You can find B-Complex at WalMart. Give her 1/4 tablet a day. It wouldn't hurt to give her 400IU Vitamin E a couple of times a week as well.

Is she able to see well?
Marek's is a possibility with the symptoms that she has, but try the vitamin therapy to see if that helps.

Of course I agree with Wyorp Rock. As a Polish Breed keeper myself, After seeing her picture, I immediately though she is not able to eat or drink because she can not see through her "Pol" head dress feathers. Although the feathers on her crest are beautiful, they hinder the vision. I debated long and hard regarding trimming the crest on mine. After I did, it was as if My girls had a new lease on life. They couldn't get enough feed/protein in and drink enough water. I even use hair ties to pull pull up the feathers because I was reluctant to trim them. Now, Trimming is part of their routine care. I trim the feathers hard around the face and sides. All 10 of them get feather cuts, feet soak and Vaseline messaged onto their feet and legs. I do a couple an evening for 5 days at roosting time to keep their stress down. Plus, the Vaseline can stay on all night when I set them back on the roost in their designated position.
Even my cockerels got feather cuts. Lol
Below is a picture of the hair tie and a before and after my feather cut. Lol
I do the Vaseline treatment once a month on all 20 chickens. I also use a soft tooth brush on the feet and legs of my Free Rangers.
I hope you baby feels better soon.
Please keep us posted.

He is GORGEOUS!!

I agree with Wyorp Rock. You need B complex or at least riboflavin (B2.) If you check most chick vitamins, they list the B vitamins—thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and all the rest by their name, not number. Many people mistake B12 for containing 12 B vitamins. B complex or super B has all B’s. Riboflain (B2) is one in chickens that can be deficient and cause curled toe paralysis. In ducks, niacin (B3 ) is more important. Hopefully, your chicken does not have Mareks, but the neural form of Mareks can be similar to riboflavin deficiency. Time will tell if she doesn’t respond to the vitamins or rest.

Vitamin b wouldn't hurt. A lot of times nutri-drench or vitamin complex is recommended to give a boost.
If she's jumping out and needs rest, I would put a piece of hardware cloth over the top. Sounds like she needs more time to heal.

thank you for your suggestions. The vitamin therapy is working. I did tie up her hair in a little ponytail and she can see better. She is putting pressure down on the other foot now and walking better. She definitely is drinking a lot more and eating more after vitamins. I’d post pictures but my phone won’t upload any. Ive tried all week to post. Thank you all again so much. I really dint want to lose her
