Hi there, this is my first run in an incubator, and the chick came from the shell with some bits that looked like umbilical cord of sorts as well as yolk sac. He/she has make quite a mess of the incubator with blood and other fluids, and I'm not sure it's normal, or if it will pass at all. I'm worried about he/she as well as the safety and cleanliness of the other eggs. The chick has been out of the shell only about 45 minutes, and is flopping around into the other eggs, still on its side. Any info. would be awesome. Thank you!

If the ambilical cord is still connected, then you should probably try to cut it with sterile tools and make sure the chick is warm and dry. I can't think of anything else do to though, hope everything turns out well!

What has worked for me in the past was taking some sewing string and tying off the umbilical cord and the yolk sac. That way, you won't deal with any bleeding and they should both dry up and fall off (or you can cut it off later) in a couple days.

I've heard this method prevents any bacteria for the unabsorbed yolk/umbilicus from going back into the chick and creating an infection without the chick losing any blood.

Then, I'd make up some electrolytes. It will give the chick an extra boost she needs since she lost a lot of nutrients in the yolk she didn't get to absorb.

I was just looking at the pictures Bc I have a chick that hatched today that still has the cord and empty yolk sack attached. Did the baby in these original pics from 2018 survive? 🥺 Or was that the yolk sac plus intestines that had come out? Mine is just the sack I see on the outside
