Is the spot of blood very obvious ... that the others would pick at? I don't think the betadine would work. How about, try putting a mirror in the box with it?

BTW: He looks quite comfy and happy there!

ok, I'll try the mirror. the spot of blood is not that obvoius but the others are really picking at it.

Yes, if they are picking at it, it is best to keep him separated. I have heard a mirror works sometimes, and maybe a sock (maybe rolled or not) he could curl up in, or beside?

I have also read that if you have a red light, they are less likely to pick at each other. Or a blue light would work, too.

we don't have any coloured lights. I guess I will just have to keep holding him.

sure is.
I have put her in with the rest now that I have a new brooder, this one is bigger and I think there will be less chance of them pecking her in a bigger space. so I think she should be fine.

That looks like a nice brooder, and VERY handy as you could probably just throw it out and start again if it got to dirty.
I see you use saw dust, I have heard that it is not a good idea but I use it and it seems to work fine. I will get a photo of our new brooder tomorrow when it is light. it didn't cost much, the wood that it is made from was just lying around the place so the only things we had to buy was the handles, hinges and wire.

actually I tried to take a photo and it sort of worked, so here is the brooder with the chicks having a party inside.
It looks very shaby in the dark.
