oh and I got the numbers wrong I have 5 in lockdown and 12 that are due on the 9th.

No Orps .... I am just sick. One had a pip ... almost at the very end of the small end. As soon as I noticed it, I went to rescue it. It was too late, and it had already died, with it's little beak outside the shell.

Then, as I reached over to grab another one of the Orp eggs, I bumped the thermometer that is clipped on the top shelf.

It dropped and smashed one of the eggs. It was alive ... blood all over, no saving it. I am so angry at myself.

The other 2 Orp eggs were dead in the shell. It appears one quit before day 18; the other was fully developed and was also upside down in the shell. These 2 eggs I had noticed the, "funky," aircell in. It had looked almost like the aircell was on the side.

I'm so sad, and mad at myself. If I had noticed the pip earlier, maybe I could have saved that one. If I hadn't been so clumsy/careless I would probably have that one. Those 2 eggs I feel I could have had chicks from...

Part One of my hatch ... 13 French Black copper Marans
Part Two of my hatch ... 11 Heritage Delawares, 1 Barred Rock, 1 mix (no Orps)

Part Three is due today ... nothing, no pips ...

are you supposed to help the chicks that pip at the wrong end?

one of the sussex chicks some how got a bleeding comb and now all the other chicks are attacking it so I put it in a box on its own and it was calling REALLY loud so I picked it up and when I try to put it back in the box it starts calling again. I have been carrying it around all day. what have I done. can I cover the little red spot with something?

There is a product called, "Blue Coat," here ... used to stop others from pecking at them. I don't know what would help. Yes, if any blood, you would have to keep it separate, or they will keep picking at it.

do you know if bedadine ( I don't know how to spell it ) would help and make the others stop picking it?
I don't know what I am going to do tonight, he's not happy unless I am holding him. I have put him down once today ( apart from outside when he would poo ) which was when he was asleep, I really carfully put him in the box and tip toed out and surprissingly he stayed asleep for about 10 minutes and then he started calling again

here is a picture of him now, asleep. the towl is not tight on him, I know it looks like I have strangled him but he is quite comfy and this is the only way I can keep him warm.
