Please help! Do I need to put coconut oil on pip?

Pics
I think the younger cockerel might be a better quality bird TBH. He looks really nice. Congrats on the chicks! I think it is safe to do a quick candle on the LA. Mist while you're in there though. It shouldn't hurt a thing.

I did check on it and it did internally pip but didn't make it to externally pip. Poor little chick. I was surprised to see it moving around last night because the egg looked to be mostly air cell and has for some time now. I didn't open the egg fully. I just couldn't. I picked up the other SBH because I was going to candle it but it started fussing as soon as I picked it up. I decided to just put it back for now since it was alive. It got quiet again after putting it down. Hopefully that means that it's still working on things and will hatch without needing assistance. I also checked the other 2 eggs that I don't believe are viable and I still have the same opinion on them. So, I'll be over here cheering on this SBH, but from a safe distance :) That is unless you suggest otherwise. I put the LA back in the incubator just in case, but I believe it died before it could externally pip.

Edited to add: I remembered your misting tip and the humidity jumped right back up to 73%. Thank you for that tip! I thought it was just for duck eggs :)

Aw, I'm sorry. It most likely was just a weak chick. The majority of my deaths are failure to pip chicks. They do great, great, great, until they need to hatch. It's sad, but happens. Even if you had assisted it it probably wouldn't have survived. Those ones are tough. I'm sorry again.
How long has the SBH been externally pipped? Is your humidity nice and high?

That's great news! He is sweet and I absolutely love how both of the CCL cockerels really love new chicks! The CCL pullet and Spitz, not so much but the CCL pullet has warmed up to everyone, after days

I'm not 100% sure of course, but he looks the nicest to me. He's really cute.

Thank you. It is sad. I just hope it doesn't suffer. That's what gets me and rips my heart out. I'm not sure when it externally pipped exactly, but I believe it was very late last night or really early this morning. I'll try to get a picture.

Ok 👍
Give it 24 hours before doing anything of course. I think he'll just pop out on his own though.

This egg was one of the most dirty out of the group. I probably do need to see if it's pipped in the air cell or not. The air cells on these eggs were awful. They looked bad when I received them. I just noticed that I put the egg back with the air cell pointing inwards like the other hatched chicks moved it

Depending on if you think I need to do anything, I will just leave it for now. If nothing has happened this evening, maybe check it then if I can't get it to fuss.

Candle it real quick.

It's pipped right on the line where the air cell ends. The chick was moving in a way that is similar to the "throbbing" like motion they make when shadowing.
Does this look OK? Do I need to do anything?
