Please Help Duck Limping

That's a good pic. And I see the swelling it could be from jumping down from the pool or he got his foot caught in something either way its an injury. Be careful soaking him in Epsom salt water if he is drinking it he can get dehydrated. If I have to soak I use a bucket and put both legs in it makes it easier then just hold the duck while soaking. I use a cup of Epsom salt to a half gallon of warm water you'd def not want him drinking that. Bottom of his foot is clear of swelling redness etc? No scabs like bumble?
How does that toe look where he lost the nail?

Thanks for that, I made sure that he didnt drink any of it, but I might try a smaller bucket next time. There is no swelling, redness, scabs or bumble at the bottom. Yesterday we gave his foot a good clean and we checked over it for any problems, its simply just that joint on top thats swollen. His toe looks fine, no swelling or signs of irritation at all. Hes still bright and perky in his cage but eating is the problem. I will have to look into the tube feeding.

Most of the tube feeding equipment can be bought from vets or pet stores or online. I keep baby bird food in my freezer[to keep it fresh] so I have it on hand if I need it.
You never know when something like this will happen and it's best to be prepared.
I tube-fed my Runner for 4-5 days once before she would eat on her own.
Hopefully, the meloxicam will settle the pain some and he'll start to eat.

Thank you, I just spoke to my vets and they dont have any syringe and tubes as they normally done deal with birds and another bird vet I spoke to doesnt have any. I called my local animal supplies and they dont have them either. Ive sourced one online but doesnt come for a few days. Is there any harm mixing his growers pellets with warm water until its a watery puree and slowly syringing it into his mouth? Just to get something into him until this arrives?

If you do it slowly and let him swallow after each syringe push. Just a little at a time. The main thing is not to let him aspirate. You said he is drinking?
Okay I will try that, just didnt want to leave him without anything until it arrives. He drank well yesterday as I watched him and Ive filled up his bowls a couple of times but just realised the girls can get their beaks through the cage and has been drinking it aswell so cant tell, we have section him off with some chicken wire to see if he drinks so I will give it an hour and go back and check on him. I really do hope he is. X

How’s your sweet drake doing today?
Hello! He hasnt got much better but he hasnt got any worse thankfully. We are still syringe feeding him and he is taking it quite well. He is drinking on his own thankfully. After a couple of days in the crate (did have time out of it but not for long) he started to get a bit sad. Yesterday I put him in the pond (I am being his legs for him) and he had so much fun, the rest of the ducks came to join him. Hes having meloxicam every morning and night and I do think it helps. I had my chicken booked into the vet today for the hormonal implant and spoke to the vet about him. She said to keep allowing him in the pond as it should help and carry on with supportive care, if not better by the end of the weekend then to bring him in. Today he actually ate some meal worms and peas from the pond so I am happy about that. The joint isnt anymore swollen and would say the swelling may of gone down a little bit. Hes bright and full of energy so just trying to keep him happy and pain free at the moment 🙂

Sounds like he is being well cared for, sure hope all your doing gets him back up and going on his own. Wonderful to hear he is eating some on his own.
Hope your hen will be okay too.

Hello, I have an update. Took Donald to the vet this morning as there were no signs of improvement. The vet thinks he has an infection of the joint so has given us some antibiotics and anti inflammatories for 10 days. Hope to see an improvement in a few days 🙏🏼 I will let you know how he gets on with them.
