It sounds like a fairly large prolapse. Were you able to find the other threads with prolapse information?
Diane has given you really good information. Keep it clean with saline solution. Use Prep H or I didn't have any so I used honey. Probably not the best thing but it worked. I kept the hen in a dark cage to slow down egg laying. I had to replace the prolapse about three times a day for 2 or 3 days. It finally stayed in place. I also trimmed the vent feathers to make it easier to keep clean, but made sure they weren't new blood feathers before I did that.
Good luck with your hen, yours does sound like a bigger prolapse than what my hen had.
