PLEASE HELP I DON"T KNOW WHAT TO DO

With all the trouble you have to take to make this rental stuff half-decently work I think you would have been much better off with three chickens of your own and a coop and appropriate run including suitable drinking trough and feeder adapted to the chickens needs. Might even result in better value for your money.

I'd agree wholeheartedly-but my parents don't want to go for it. If we keep the hens, I'll give them a real setup-I'm building it myself, and picking everything out. And believe me, I REALLY want to keep the hens. You're also right-this was the LEAST cost efficient option. It cost $1400 for this pathetic rental setup. (I explained that this was the worst possible option) (it got me nowhere)

Why in the world would anyone want to keep some presumably older and thus a little worn out rental hens???
So that I don't have to send them back to whatever mistreatment they were suffering before. (also-if they're worn out and eggs slow down, then it's more likely that parents will bend for new chicks to add in the future)

Maybe that is just what the rental people count on.
