Please help. I have no idea what to do.

In terms of strength she seems to be OK. Quite vivid also. I hope now that the sun is setting will help her a bit. Poor hen the last month she has suffered a lot. Is it possible that the vent gleet infection damaged her interior? The egg, 1-2 hours ago was quite close to come out, but now it seems to be back inside her. I guess now i have to wait till morning. I hope for the best.

I went to place my little hen on her own area for the night, and she seems to breath a bit heavy. I hope that she will make the night.

If she manages to release this egg, what is the chance for this to happen again?

Do you have a heating mat or hot water bottle? I would cover that with some towels, not too many that the heat does not come through and place her on that for the night. The extra warmth my help relax the muscles so she can pass the egg.

It could be that the egg is very large, or the hen aging. There is really no way to tell if it will happen again.

i don't know much about vent gleet, so not sure if that has anything to do with it. You mentioned she is breathing heavier. Is her mouth open?

i've had occasions where a hen goes to lay an egg, something interrupts and the egg goes back in, but then she lays a while later.

She is not old. She is only a year old, but indeed the egg is quite big for her size. Also I think the fact she lost quite a lot of weight makes her muscles a bit weaker than usual. When she breathes her beak is closed, but she is not in her best mood I think. I spent almost a month to help her recover from vent gleet, and she kept me company, when I was digging in the garden. So while I was preparing my vegetable garden, she was eating worms. This made me bond with her quite a lot. I hope that she will skip this also, and she will fully recover. She is my new favourite flock member.

Praying for her to get better.

I am trying from early this morning to remove the egg from her, but it seems impossible at the moment. I had her inside warm water, and when her muscles got loose, I tried to locate the egg with my finger. It seems that the egg-path is blocked. I feel some flesh first, and then right after it is her egg. Any idea if she can lay this egg, and also if she has any chance of survival?

Unfortunately my little hen has just died. Twenty four hours ago we were together digging in the garden. Now I have just buried her. I made a post-mortem and I found something really strange. Her intestines were ok, so I treated her properly from vent gleet. I found one egg without a shell and that was probably what cause the problem. The strange thing is that yesterday when i touched the egg for the first time, I was 101% that i touched a shell. Poor girl I couldn't save her.

I am very sorry to hear about your hen. You did the best you could for her. I have heard that sometimes eggs can be re-absorbed, perhaps this is what happened that's why you no longer see the shell.
