Hi! I know what we were TOLD this youngster was upon hatching back in March, but what do you all think? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Thank you, yes, both breed and gender. This lovely was sold to us in March as a newborn Sapphire Gem hen, but we are having serious suspicions because of the tail feathers, crowing, and aggressive behavior.

We aren't allowed to have roosters where we live, so we were hoping she was just a very masculine-looking girl. We're also pretty sure this isn't a Sapphire Gem, based on other photos we've seen of them.

Any info you've got would be helpful. I couldn't find any chickens even remotely looking like this online, so I'm baffled.

He’s a very pretty bird. Sorry to confirm your suspicions. And sorry you couldn’t keep him if you want.

I can’t offer any further info as to breed or possible crosses.

Best of luck finding a solution for him.

Side note - 99% of the time crowing is a dead giveaway.

Ok, this makes me sad, but we will look into how we can get him transferred to another home. Lots of places around here outside the no-rooster zone.

I might post pics of the other "hens" tomorrow just to verify with y'all that we don't have any more boys lurking in the mix. I am super-disappointed because this country store not only said it was a pullet run, but that Sapphire Gem was sex-linked and there was no way we'd end up with a rooster. Sigh...

Here are the other three... do any of them look like cockerels to y'all? They don't to me, now that I've been reading online how to tell the difference, but I would like to feel more sure.

I would say the black one and the last picture are likely cockerels and the buff one is a question mark to me. I lean towards pullet though!
