So my grandma was at the farm store and she saw this chick all by itself in a bin, the sales girl told her it was because the chick had a limp leg and they didnt want it to get trampled. She told her they would give the chick to her for free so she took it home and offered it to me to care for since she knows I have chickens.
The chick eats and drinks fine, she seems otherwise healthy, she just wont put weight on her bad leg and it seems to want to cross over the other one. When I looked at her leg, it doesn't appear to be spraddle leg or curled toe, or even a slipped tendon.. because nothing about the leg, foot or toes looks swollen or otherwise deformed in any way. The only thing out of the ordinary is that when looking at her from the back, the side where her bad leg is looks like her hip is either swollen or popped out of place - (it is up higher and sticking out further than the other side.) I called my local vet but he doesnt see birds.. he told me it sounded like a dislocated leg or hip and to just try popping it back into the socket... but when I tried, I couldnt find anywhere for it to "pop in" ... Im not sure what to do....
Should I make a type of sling to hold it to her body? Is there anything else I can try? Does it sound like there could be something else wrong besides a dislocation? Will she be okay with her leg like that if I can't fix it?
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.
