I have a Spring born Astralorpe and she has been a great egg layer until about 5 days ago. She had laid an egg five days ago and then I found her appearing to lay again the same day that evening. Ever since she has been in the box straining to lay with no results. I've put her in very warm water for 20 minutes 3 times and have also brought her inside in a quiet dark place all day yesterday. I've felt inside the vent area and her abdomen and can't palpate an egg. Any ideas? I don't know how long she can go on like this or if I should get her into the vet. I am so worried about her so any advice would be welcome. * After much stressing, it seems she is broody right now and she was given 3 fertilized eggs to sit on this am.

One way you may help is to use a atomizer for water. Not the steam kind, but the atomizer kind. If you do not have a atomizer you can use the steam kind but you MUST keep her in a warm confined place wich probably means a bathroom in your house. The steam kind is a bit too much heat as you need to direct it to her vent. You will have to keep it away enough so it is not detrimental. This trick is done on large parrots all the time. Many times it saves a trip to the vet. In fact, vets use this method before they try anytning else. I sure hope this helps, but do not wait too long.

Thank you. I'm going to give it a try. She is just sitting in her nest box today and barely moving. She hasn't laid at all either. Is it possible she could be broody? I'm going to bring her in this afternoon.
