I plan on keeping one of these roosters and possibly showing it in the future so please keep that in mind when picking your favorite. I'm new to chickens so I'm still learning on what to look for and what to avoid when it comes to breed standard. Do I need to wait a couple more weeks for more color to come in or? I have these 6 guys and 2 hens in one pen and while the hens aren't being harrassed yet, I'm sure that's not far in the future! Any and all comments are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I don't know much about BLRW but I like green and brown the best, the lacing seems the be the best out of the group. But they still look young so you really can't say anything for sure until they are mature

Alicia - Thanks for your opinion! Green caught my eye as well.

chickendales - Thanks! That's a GREAT idea!

They are so young. They will continue to grow until they are around 18 mos.

When I culled at that age, I was looking for obvious things, like very brassy gold instead of a nice rich red, look at their combs, leg color, and lacing. If they are all equal in that, wait for as long as you can.

Pink, brown and light blue look like they have the darkest red coloring (less orange) and the light blue and pink look like they have darker hackles. Like someone suggested above, I'd pick out the 3 best and wait a little longer. I personally always consider a sweet temperament very important too. I hate working with mean roos so they don't live long at our place.
