Please Help Me! Glendale AZ

Good point on the complaints. I'll follow up on that. I delivered my appeal letter to the code enforcement department people, and everyone up their food chain this morning, including my councilman.

Best of luck!

I think the fact that many in your neighborhood with your zoning have poultry & waterfowl works to your advantage. I assume that you will have a hearing--be sure to take photos showing the prevalence of them in your area.

You might also look at the criteria that separates your zoning from those where the birds are allowed. If it's merely location, that seems easy to address (and get your zoning changed). If it's also other criteria such as a large discrepancy between their lot sizes versus yours and other allowed uses that may not be as appropriate for single family residential, it's a bit harder.

I'm formally taking this up with Glendale because they're misinterpreting code on 2 accounts.

Also, I'm going to work on getting the offending section of code revised to be clear in that chickens are allowed.

I am asking for all Glendale residents, readers of this forum, and other interested parties to contact me so I can keep you informed of my progress and to solicit your help. I will be appearing before the Board of Adjustments and presenting a proposal to City Council to correct our code and need all the support I can get.

I will NOT divulge your information to anyone. I just need some backing people...

While I'm still fighting with Glendale I did have to get rid of my flock or face a court action.

In the 2 weeks since I last posted I haven't gotten a single letter or email of support from this forum at all. I can only conclude that nobody cares.

It's a shame...soon everyone is going to clamoring to raise their own food as the economy worsens...and you ain't gonna be able to do it legally if you want chickens in Glendale.

i think most here are rural owners ... as for me ... i live inside city limits

i can have chickens ... as long as the neighbors don't complain about the noise (no mention of smell) and are housed at least 100 feet away from other residences.

got a link to your local laws? i can read them if you like ... but i am afraid that i am not very much use for your situation

Chris, why don't you try reposting this as a new discussion? Your last post was deep in a very long thread. A lot of people might not have seen it.

Luckitri,

Would you please contact me concerning getting together to fight the ordinance and zoning people?

We've gathered a ton of support in the past couple weeks and are preparing to pack the council chambers one evening and let them have it.

I'd love to contact people who sent you their contact info so we can gain more support.

We will win this if people will step forward to help.

Chris

i also was interested in building a chicken coop for my garden and called the code enforcement office (where i was directed) and was told chickens are considered farm animals and are not allowed in city limits. so i guess you guys are telling me this is not true?
