Well, she is still alive and starting to eat on her own, but not drink. She is having problem with one of her legs, like she can't control it. It twiches and spazes. She is also doing this weird thing with her beak where it looks like she's trying to burp or something. I checked her throat, nothing stuck in there and her crop is soft, I'm still feeding her digestive enzymes and am going to look up gape-worm.
Today her eyes are overly watery and goo is coming out of 1 of them. Her depth perseption is way off, she pecks at the food dish, misses, gets wood shavings in her mouth and eats them. She held in so well, that I feel if I could just get a good diagnosis I could get her better, but I'm not sure that's going to happen.
Well, she's started eating on her own, and that's good. Maybe if you put a wider food dish in there, she would have less of a chance of missing it. Could the depth perception be mostly because of the watery eyes? Vitamin deficiency?
These symptoms you are describing could be for so many things... and more than likely there are probably several things going on at once.
Massage her crop gently at regular intervals (a downward motion to get this accumulated crop contents through)... and make sure you are not overdoing the enzyme (what enzyme is this? it may be contributing to the sour crop issues if the crop is static and not moving the contents thru).
Before I added the emzyme her poop had undigested food in it.
,,,I suggest you provide basic support measures:
>Put electroytes/vit in her waterer to prevent dehydration
> give three drops POLYVISOL enfamil (no extra iron) in beak once a day for a week then taper off the next
> go to the petstore and get sme baby parrot/bird formula > this is a powder that you mix water with and you can mix that in with her normal feed (no scratch or grains) to concentrate the nutrition.
>keep her separated in a temp stable place which is dry quiet with no extra stressors. It is important this be a relatively warm place.
She may have Mareks (in which case there is nothing you can do except provide basic support and ensure she eats and does not become dehydrated. She will either recover or not)
There are electrolytes in her water. I have to feed her with a dropper, how much water should a chicken have in 1 day? I will pick up poly-visol today after work. I have parrot formula. She will eat anything I put in her mouth, but will not feed herself. She is in my bath room, under a heat light and will remain there until she gets better.
The bathroom can be an ideal place as the higher humidity will help the bird (ensure adequate ventilation and that the bird does not become too warm) I know the article seems a bit daunting but do try to muddle thru it as it will help you to understand what is/has gone on. A birds immune system is a powerful thing and is totally dependent on the nutrients they absorb through their feed.
Great that she is eating... the baby parrot formula is better than oatmeal to mix in with her feed (and do try to mix with her feed as the feed provides a more poultry specific balance of nutrients... the parrot formula will concentrate them).
Hello sorry at present I'm on the road...but we gave Corrid from the feed store for the. Cocciddiosis. Give it for 5 days. There an excellent book: the back yard flock by mike strecker. Randall berkey has cures for a lot of things.
