Please help me with my duckling that is having trouble walking.

Crested ducks have a hole in their skull. Inside of the skull they have a blob of fat. As a result of the blob in their skull, they have less room for their brains. About half of the time, it means that a crested duck has serious dexterity problems. You can test this by placing your duck on its back. If she struggles to right herself, then she is clumsy and there is nothing that you can do about it.

If you breed ducks, I recommend that you do not breed crested ducks. If you insist on breeding crested ducks, then only use those that can get back up without struggling.

I have no intention on breeding any of my poultry, she is just a sweet little family duck. All I care about is if she can live with it or is it something that will kill her. I put her on her back and she was able to get up pretty good as she was fighting with me. Little bird ,that’s her name, is the sweetest and nicest one and I don’t care if she is wobbly or has problems, I will just have to help her. My dog has epilepsy and I have to give her a pill day and night and I am all right with that because I love her. All I care about and want to know is if she can live a long life with these neurological problems or if that is what it is.

We have members that have crested with neurological problems. Don’t give up on her try the liquid b complex and see if that helps with dexterity. It may even help with other things but it’s an inexpensive way to start but do start ASAP so she can get help quickly.

My neighbors are being horrible about the chickens so I have to move them and I won’t be able to get it today but will this week. I will still give her niacin today though

I'd start her on vitamin E in addition to the thiamine(B1), she should get around 400iu of E once a day, over treats or orally, just get the human soft gel capsules.

The capsules I use spilt in half and have tiny little balls of niacin that I just spread over her crumbles. As long as she lives a happy life I will be happy, even if she has episodes. I will get her the survey high vitamin b complex tomorrow and start her on it. How do I give it to her though? Like in water or on her food?
