Please Help Muffin!! UPDATE: HE IS BETTER!

I hope it isn't Marek's.

I had one that had it, so the lab said. So far the rest of mine are fine. I am still at a loss as to where it came from. No new birds, no shows, no close neighbors with chickens, closed flock, etc. So it will remain a mystery. I hand fed mine for 3 weeks before she died. The thing is, since it causes tumors in different places in different birds it can look the same, but also different in each case. It is hard to figure it out.

I wish you the best of luck and please keep us posted.

I hope your Muffin comes around. He is beautiful.

oh forgot to add, Mareks is everywhere and it is very possible he was exposed many months ago but that it too a while to effect him. Mareks is in the soil and it is said that if your chicken has breathed air then it has been exposed, it just tends to show up between 5-10 months of age. If he has it yes he will always be a carrier but since it is already on your farm (if its mareks) then there is nothing you can do about it. It has a very long life even when you sanatize everything you can think of so dont even bother. You may decide though that all new chicks get vacinated from here on though to make your life easier in the future.

also tye st johns wart must be a separate treatment from the pro-biotic mash or it wont have the same effect.

Muffin is much better this morning! He had gotten out of his sling (I am sure the color makes him mad) He fought me to put him back in the sling and he ate 1/8 of a cup of food and I got the St Johns Wort in him (he was very angry and kicked at me!) I got the Poly Vi Sol down him and he was sleeping when I came back in from the barn.

oh that sounds great.

be careful about them being able to get out of the sling I had an EE who did that overnight and got her leg caught and she hurt it badly from being like that all night while I slept and did not know it had happened. I think he will be better in no time

When I got him back in the sling he was actually standing, flat footed like he should be for awhile, so I take that as a positive sign, yesterday he could not stand at all.
