Please help! My female quail is limping and feathers in the back are missing!

Hi! So I have a problem. I have a male and female quail. I’ve had them for a year now. The female has been missing many feathers behind her neck but when I’ve searched it up I’ve gotten results on it being normal. Yesterday I realized that she looked a bit more hurt? She is limping and I have no clue why. She’s missing more feathers. Yet the male quail looks completely healthy and normal. I have no clue what to do. It’s especially harder since I don’t know any vets nearby that I can take her too. I’ve been thinking it might be the cage being possibly too small leaving her without any places to hide? I’ve been thinking about remodeling it also. If I do end up having to take her out though the male will go crazy calling for her. Any suggestions on what could be wrong and what I could do?

And you have just a pair? Or a flock?

Just a pair. I’m afraid that if I incubate more instead of getting a female I get a male. So I haven’t risked it.
