First time chicken owner here. Our Speckled Sussex (~6 months old) has been acting off the last couple of days. She’s hanging in the coop (up on roost) and not eating/drinking like normal. This is a pic of her poop. Can anyone give advice as to what may be the problem? We had a polish chicken (about 4 months old) die about a month and a half ago (for no known cause). So this is really concerning. Thanks for your help!

It looks like she has not been eating enough. The yellow mucus may be a sign of coccidiosis. I would get some Corid right away and start treatment in the water. Dosage is 2 tsp of the liquid Corid or 1.5 tsp of the powder per gallon of water for 5-7 days. Make sure that she drinks it. Watch for the white part of her poop being yellow. It looks yellow in the pic possibly because of the yellow mucusy liquid, but the urates should be white normally. If they are yellow, that could be a sign of a reproductive infection or liver problem. Does she lay eggs normally?

Try to get her drinking some fluids right away. Hold a lid or cup up to the beak and dip her beak if needed. Mushy wet feed is also good, and most will peck at watermelon or other watery foods.
