is that a sign of being eggbound.she is 6 months old.she was not herself yesterday evening.just standing around.at one time she squated as though she was going to poop.she didn't.and than i seen a white liquid running out of her vent.i put her in warm soapy water twiced.and massage under her vent area.she never passed an egg.i caged her in the house last night.and she has pooped quite alot.what else should ido.i plan on putting her back with her flock this morning.i will check her before i leave for work.any help would be greatly appreicated.

Other than the squatting, is your hen possessing any other out-of-the-ordinary behaviour?
Also, does the discharge have a foul odour?

I believe that squatting occurs for hens that are about to come in to lay. However, the discharge is not a sign that she is egg-bound (egg-bound symptoms include a hen who refuses to leave the nesting box, generally reluctant to move).
Based on what you have said, I think your hen may have vent gleet, which is a yeast infection. Yogurt is often used to treat the problem.

Symptoms of vent gleet:

  • Typical offensive odour
  • Soiled vent feathers and slimy discharge coming from vent area.
  • Straining to defaecate.

I would suggest removing her from the flock and feeding her yogurt.

Please take a look at the sources for more information.

Passing manure is a very good sign. She could have any number of things wrong with her (or, if she's back to her usual behavior and eating and drinking, she might be fine!) Possibly an egg broke inside of her. Possibly she has an infection. If it's vent gleet it will be stinky. I suggest that you do my "spa treatment" which is an epsom salt soak and a few other things. This often sets a hen right. http://hencam.com/faq/the-spa-treatment/
For vent gleet, (and other messy butt issues) I have a remedy here:
