Raccoons are digging under our chicken coop! Yes, raccoons. :he:he:he:he:rant:rant:rant:rantDarn raccoons!!!! They have been extremely persistent. What are fairly cheap products that you use that are affective raccoon repellents? ANY INFO WILL BE WELCOMED, AND APPRECIATED!!!!!
Thanks in advance!!!
You'll have to trap them or shoot them or else they'll just keep coming back. No repellent will last long, they'll get used to it and eventually not even care it's there. A live trap is a good option, but you'll have to dispatch them once you catch them, they'll find their way back.

@duluthralphie can help you cook them once you catch em.

My city told me to live trap and drown. >( Like, 7 years ago ya'll prosecuted a 90 year old lady for hitting a deer with a shovel and now you want me to drown raccoons on my property? Nuh-uh! Wish I had a recording of that conversation... Shooting is illegal here. So's hotwire and barbed wire.

We opted for exclusion. Chains and steel hardware and 2x4 beams over doors on all sections of our coop. They only come at night for me anyhow. You could lay down a dig guard on your fence too.

Good idea, but we can't trap or shoot, because we live in the city! Darn raccoons!!!
Most cities that don’t allow traps are limiting jaw traps that can catch cats and dogs.

These traps should be legal. They have no jaws and only catch raccoon and possum. Both of which are Southie delicacies.

Call in an exterminator or something maybe? Why can't you trap?

Once you trap you have to DO something with them. For most USA places that means...

-Finding a place where you're legally allowed to release them (ie getting permission from a private landowner to release the coon there)
-Killing them (how? Most places like this shooting a gun is illegal, drowning is animal cruelty, etc)
-Send them to a rehab center? Most won't take em....
-Pay someone to take the trapped coon away (better be licensed for it...)

In general trapping just gives you a trapped raccoon, which is not less of a problem.
