I read her article. While some of it is true, a lot is very misguided. Please believe me when I tell you that in your case, you did the right thing. I've had to cull before too, so I know it's not easy.

There are many ways to cull. To “cull” a chicken simply means to remove it from the flock. Kill it, sell it or separate it.Whats the best way to cull...just asking. Never even thought about doing this, but just curious![]()
I don't feel coordinated or confident enough to use a hatchet. It would have to be a cone with decapitation.bobbi, I have trouble using the hatchet now, but yes, swift decapitation is the most humane way.
Unfortunately, if you keep chickens long enough, you will probably have to cull at some point or another. That doesn't necessarily mean to "kill" a chicken. But sometimes there is a chicken that doesn't fit in with the flock. It's usually either a terrible bully, or one that is bullied relentlessly. Sometimes you just have to remove one for the peace of the rest of the flock.I hope I never have to do this .....I am not sure I couldeven if it had to be done.
