Hope this helps someone.
I live in Queretaro, Mx, land of scorpions it seems. We always have "Alin" in case of stings. It is a corticosteroid (8mg/2mL of dexametasone). I lost a chicken--we think due to a scorpion sting--a couple months ago, so this time, when I saw the symptoms, I reacted. I had unlocked the pen latish (bad idea because at dusk the scorpions emerge and the chickens cant see well) and minutes later I notice one of my ladies huddling in the corner in distress as if trying to get back in the coop but unable to remember how. I picked her up walked to the corral, and when i put her down she just flopped and fell rt on her chest/neck/etc. It was awful. I bent down and inspected her.
I didnt understand the symptoms at first and I didnt know what had happened. Her feathers were all muddy and at first I thought some were shredded. She couldnt stand at all and when she tried she would fall to the side. I called a cousin who is a dog/cat vet and she said she doesnt work with birds, but to give her half the alin dose, and that whether it was the dog who got her, a snake, or a scorpion, it would help. I did, and brought her inside to a safe place. The next day, (yesterday) i gave her an epsom salt bath to tey and clean up the mud, relax her muscles, check for injuries, disinfect, and reduce inflamation. She did not like it as much as the posts i found recommending it, but, i did it and then blowdried it. I realized her feathers werent actually damaged. A couple fell out but i saw no injuries excrpt for a ikny scratch behind her wing from who knows what. Today is the third day in the morning and she is able to stand and take a step before sitting again. Yesterday she ate only when i pet her, but today she is eating a bit more and finally had a big decent poo. I think she will be ok, though I am still deciding whether to bring her to the vet. (this happened saterda, late afternoon, maybe 40 min. Before dusk and rt now it's early Monday morning). She is doing this weird clicking sound where she opens and closes her beak...am not sure if she's hot. (I had put a heater in the bathroom in case she got cols from the bath.)
Anyway. The injection helped and i think the bath might have too. Hope this helps someone.
