Please help! Tumor on chicken neck?

She is about 8 months old

I can’t remember any pecking or any injuries that she has ever had. One thought may be Mareks, we had a bird die from it in September, but no troubles or any injuries or problems AT ALL since.

Currently she is preening amd eating oats in water.

It’s fairly rounded, and like a hard tissue, not quite bone, but it’s hard

What should I do to treat it? Does it need to be removed? Anything I can do in the meantime?

Update: she has two, one on the upper back of her neck and one on the upper left side. They are a centimetre or two apart. Checked my other three girls and they are all fine. No idea what’s going on, please help!

It sounds like she has developed abscesses or possibly cysts. My advice would be to take her to a vet. They could be lanced or removed.

Well, Mareks tumors would certainly be a possibility with your flock’s history. Another possibility would be ingrown feathers, which can form cysts under the skin. I would keep an eye on them, and watch to see if they grow.

Ok, yes they could be ingrown feathers because she had been molting in her neck back in December and perhaps some feathers have become in grown. I will keep an eye on them for sure. Hat should I do in the meantime? And how long should I wait before taking her to the vet?

I put her back outside with the others because she was eating and drinking and pooping normally and wandering around the house. The others are all fine.

I would apply Vetericyn or plain neosporin on ther skin and observe for a couple of days. If it doesn’t heal or gets worse, a field trip to the vet is recommended!

just discovered a large abscess/tumor on my chickens neck, and yes it is separate rom her crop, which feels normal. She is still eating and drinking, and acting normal. The large bump looks very clean and smooth, and has feathers on it. I will attach so,e pictures. What could be wrong? @wyor @WVduckchick @casportpony @rebrascora @KikisFlock
