this is funny: with the second egg, i literally came to check on her and only saw the shell! looked around but found nothing!! turned out she was tucked under mama's fluff, and blended in. i seriously looked strait at her and didnt notice till later

I read the article and am giving Lucky a few hours. I can hear peeping and tearing noises coming from the egg when I hold it to my ear. Does anyone know what the tearing like noises are?

OMG... the temp is too low. The noises is the chick trying to start unzipping. I hatch 3 times a month. Temp is crucial to success. So is humidity. Being under a lamp only w/o humidity may subject it to shrink wrapping. Thus during the assist you would need to moisten the inner and outer membranes.

First the shell needs to be SLOWLY chipped away. Tiny bit at a time without disturbing the membranes. The slowly peel the outer membrane with a pair of tweezers.

STOP if any liquid starts seeping out. The chick needs to absorb all of that nutrition before it comes out.
If the membrane has shrunk, a moist paper towel is needed to hydrate it. Most assisted hatches in my experences have become special needs chicks, although some have been fine, but very few.

Id give the chick more time if its trying on its own. Get the temp up and get some wet paper towels near the egg for humidity. Good Luck! Im having my first hatch right now and its so hard not to help LOL. Mine are under a broody tho.
