Our pet duck got attacked by something. Her webbing is torn and she has a bone exposed. She also has some kind of chest wound. I think plan on soaking her and giving her some antibiotic spray. But I really don’t know what to do about the foot.
How deep is the chest wound if you can clip the feathers away you’ll be able to treat her better. Clean the wounds with warm salt water then use by an antibiotic ointment on the wounds. Keep her inside to keep the flies off of her or you’ll be dealing with maggots once you clean her up post better pic of her wounds. I’d def wrap her foot once you’ve cleaned her up https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/wrapping-feet.1255043/
We put her in clean water yesterday. The wound is healing. She is drinking water but will not eat. She barely moves. When she does move, it's for a tiny bit and then she stops. I don't know what to do for her pain. I also do not know what to do for her exposed bone or tendon and her dangling toe. Also, her poo is white and super watery. . My husband will not let us take her to a vet due to money concerns.
How is her foot looking. Soak in warm Epsom salt water that can help with healing and is that the end of her toe hanging off of the toe? I'd def keep that foot clean. Her wound is healing how does it look did you clip the feathers back no discharge? no smell? She is probably very sore and probably hurting you can give ibuprophen for children to her.https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/found-a-gaping-wound-some-advice-would-be-appreciated-nsfw-pic-in-post.1568450/#post-26625866
It does not smell and there is no discharge. I may have to get someone to help me get a better look at it. Thank you for the link to the post. I thought I was looking for a scab to heal. I will try the food and warm water and ibuprofen. How do I keep the foot clean? Will she forever just have that tendon/bone hanging out? Should I get her a bootie? Thanks!
I don't think skin is going to grow back over the bone. I am not sure how it is going to go with the bone sticking out like it is. I think it would be a good idea to have a bootie to protect it. The thing with injures where a wound is open if we don't clip the feathers back once the wound begins to close up feathers can get caught in the wound and cause infection.
