Please help !

Well, at least you know she isn't egg bound.

If I knew the other girl was sneezing I probably would have said not to bring her as well.

I knew there was risk without you being able to quarantine.

Have you given her the electrolytes? You can also give her some chopped up garlic if you have it. It is powerful and works for a lot of things because it has disinfecting properties and probiotics as well. Seems when anti biotics are given isn't for respiratory symptoms but to fight secondary issues that arise after or during the respiratory infection.

Does your friend know where the other chicken came from? Or how long it's been sneezing? Does she still have the hard lump?

Is Chicky able to poo yet and still drinking lots? Without much food, she doesn't have much energy. I might try some cooked rice since it digest super easy. And continue with the egg.

My friend had this chicken among others ehen they were just small chicks , she was sneezing much when she first came in and especially at night , now it's less and no strange sounds ,Chicky poops watery poop , it was yellowish it's now green and white , she's not drinking much as yesterday . I gave them chopped onions, I will try the garlic . Is she going to die ? I'm really worried I can't stop crying :( I gave her granite grids to help her digesting .

I would actually avoid onions.

I hope she isn't going to die anytime soon. I am sorry for loss of your loved one... I have suffered the loss of many loved ones.

Continue chopped boiled egg or tuna and the electrolytes. If she isn't drinking what you think is often enough, drip the electrolytes on top of the beak just below the nostrils with your finger tip. When the liquid rolls around into her mouth, she will gobble and swallow it. If I had (human) vitamins, I would crush some up and put in water or soft feed. Cat food is also good. The green poop is bile, caused by not having much food to digest. I don't know if it's better or worse than yellow. I don't consider this chart to be 100% accurate, but you can use it for some comparison..

Many on here use a product called Tylan 50 for respiratory issues, they buy from a farm supply type store for around $11 us. It has been effective for many. I'm not positive, but I think it's an injectible, which even though may be uncomfortable to do is less uncomfortable than a loss.

The treatments you're talking about aren't available in my country, they're not accessible, my only hope is home remedies, they're breathing well ,can sneezing be cured on its own or by vitamins and home remedies? I have a vitamin that I take , it's a pill full of all known vitamins , is it safe to put one in the water? I called my friend now and she told me that the new chicken got sick when she brought it home to me because my house is really cold and she used to live with a flock in the warm , ans the flock is fine and none of them is sneezing, could it be just cold because of the cold air ??

You said the new chicken was sneezing non stop when she showed up at your house. That wouldn't be something she caught at your place if it was already happening. Being cold doesn't make you sick and chickens are wearing down jackets that keep them quite toasty on the coldest of days. Many people raise them in sub zero temp with no extra heat and you can see them out running around in the snow. If she wasn't sneezing when she showed up.... it is possible that the move and travel was enough of a stressor to weaken her immune system and let something that she already was a carrier of or exposed to make her a little sick. New chick could also be sneezing from something new to her in your environment like shavings dust. Or it's true she could have caught something at your place from not yet having immunity built to the different microbes. But all that goes out the door mostly if she was sneezing upon arrival.

I would try the vitamins even if there is no guarantee it will help. It can help and it won't hurt, any extra vitamins they don't need will be passed in droppings. Since you aren't using a commercial ration, it might be a good idea to do often even. I understand that Tylan may not be available. But you do have sugar, salt and baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to make the electrolyte solution that I gave you the recipe for, don't you? Have you started that yet?

How is Chicky doing today? Have you given your other girl a name yet or been to worried to even think about it? You must be exhausted from the crying and worrying!

I wish I could be more help.

Have you checked BYC to see if there are chicken folk in your area? I know they have like state threads, but not sure about other countries. I will see if I can find any leads for you. They might know better what's available or where to find it.

Also, in our area..... chicken disease is a serious matter to protect our food supply. So it's actually illegal to transport chickens across county lines without a permit, though many still do it.

With many things in the environment, you have to build immunity. Hopefully they are a little under the weather but will pull through this with a stronger immunity in tact. Even though Chicky seemed like the aggressor at first, it was probably still a little bit of a stressor for her to. I probably wouldn't keep them separated unless Chicky is too sick to get around and stuff. But if they are at the same level, I would just treat them both together so they can continue to bond while they are healing.

Come on chicky!

Thanks a lot for your concerns and your advice , I will try the recipe you told me about I just need to have baking soda , I'm not separating them anymore , I need the other chicken to be with Chicky while she's sick :( she ate more today , she was inactive in the morning and I think it's because she hasn't had any food for 2 days , I gave her cooked rice , boiled eggs ,cooked cauliflower she loves it a lot , and it's not solid , the ball in her crop is shrinking , it's now a golf ball size but soft , when she eats it gets bigger but once she poops it shrinks again , I'm still massaging it though , when she ate she was a little bit active , she was moving around and scratching and peaking the other chicken
big_smile.png
oh God she's so cute I don't know what I'm going to do if she leaves me :( but her voice wasn't loud today , when she sees me she always makes happy sounds , also when I put food and water , but today it was so low , I still can hear strange noises from her inside when I massage her , I don't know how to describe it but it's like when we have a cold and our nose is blocked and we try to blow . the other chicken used to do that a lot but now she isn't , the sneezing continues in both chicken , I asked a vet online he told me it's better to give them natural remedies such as garlic and lemon and aspirin , heavy vitamins may hurt their system especially Chicky with her impacted crop , so I crushed garlic and put a tiny bit of squeezed lemon , just a drop and an aspirin and added all to their water just 2 hours ago and they drank , I wish she feels better in the morning

I still can hear both of them sneezing while they're sleeping , especially Chicky she has a very loud sneeze it wakes me up at night :(

Sounds like you are experience the pains of having children when they are sick, Every cough and sneeze wakes up the caring parent.

Do you have a neighbor you might be able to borrow the baking soda from? That solution will help hugely with her energy level.

Be careful with the aspirin. It is a pain reliever and will make them feel better for a short while, which might make a short term spike in activity. But also, it is a blood thinner. Any injuries could have a hard time to stop bleeding. Just make sure you have a correct dose.

Although I agree that heavy minerals could be hard... vitamins and minerals ARE natural. The vitamin that would help the most is the B vitamins. Many people use liquid baby vitamins with NO iron. But in a pinch, we work with what we have.

She's a lot better today , Still I can't hear her happy sounds or any sounds but she's better at eating and activity ,I can hardly hear the other chicken sneezes , I told you she was sneezing non stop , now she barely does it , and she stopped sneezing at night , and for Chicky she's not sneezing much as yesterday , she was sneezing all night , now they've been sleeping for 2 hours and I'm hearing nothing . I put only one aspirin in the water I will not put more , and she didn't lay since Thursday , but in general if you see her you will say she's a healthy chicken , her wattles and comb are red and not pale , her tale is always up , she's moving , nothing wrong , but her feet , wattles and combs are always cold , every time I touch them they're extremely cold :( I got baking soda , can you tell me the exact ingredients , how much of each and should I add them to water or what ?

Once they get over this, they will have some immunity built. But they may actually be carriers of it for life and it will only rear it's ugly head during times of stress like molt or during an injury or something like that.

She does sound like she's going to be OK. Assuming the aspirin isn't masking the symptoms.

Recipe is ....2 cups warm water, 2 tablespoons brown (preferred) (white OK), 1/2 teaspoon EACH salt and baking soda. Stir until dissolved and serve full strength.

If you have room, you can keep both waters available. It is OK to use this mix for a few days and whenever they need a little boost. If you want to use the aspirin, you can include it probably. Or maybe use your aspirin water for it. I don't know the correct dose of aspirin to use so hopefully you got good info on that.

If you have the opportunity to buy some liquid baby vitamin drops that include the B's but with NO iron, it would be worth keeping on hand to use for the birds occasionally, since you are working with special circumstances. Here is an Amazon link so you can see what it looks like and maybe you can get even from Amazon... Actually, a lot of the things might be available on Amazon, but I don't know about other countries rules. And I usually buy enough stuff I need to make the $49 required for free shipping. One of the questions answered for this product was even from a guy who used it for chickens. Most of the bad reviews are regarding taste but that won't matter for birds.

I will look forward to another encouraging report!

Okay Chicky was fine until this afternoon, she even laid her first egg since Thursday , but a few hours ago I found her stsnding in the corner , opening her peak and it seems like she has trouble breathing, and she sneezes after that , she's not eating or drinking , I gave her her favorite treats and food but she didn't touch any , she even let me held her without fighting me as usual , her tail is down and I know as long as it's down means that she's really sick , I don't know what to do, she's supposed to go to sleep now but she ate nothing, neither drank , what to do :(
