Please help us! We have 12 hens and Our oldest (3yo)👇) is not well. I brought her to the vet yesterday and he gave her an injectable antibiotic and loaded 6 more for me to give her for the next 6 days. The Dr. could not confirm what it is that is wrong with her. He said it could be viral or bacterial, but the only way to find out is if we put her down and have her sent to the lab. She is eating, but very mopey with this weird poop (looked at charts and could not find anything like it since it’s gotten watery). Since she went to the vet yesterday 2 more hens are behaving “off” and one has the weird poop. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong with her? My daughter is hysterical and I don’t know what else to do!!
Thank you 🙏🏼

Sorry about your hen. Did the vet think that she might have a reproductive disorder? I have seen droppings like that from older hens with internal laying or egg yolk peritonitis. Check her crop in early morning to see if it is empty, or if it is ful and hard or puffy. Feel of her lower belly, and compare it to other hens to see if it feels enlarged, spongy or tight like there might be fluid inside. What antibiotic is she being treated with?

Awww it's hard especially when you have kids so attached. Buffs are such great chickens too and your daughter is so cute reading her a book...How sweet!

I hope she recovers and the rest of the flock are okay also. How well versed is your Vet with chickens?
