I have 2 baby button quails. One of the two has splayed legs. I researched how to fix it. I was trying the bandaid method. They are so fragile. I was being as careful as possible. The chick was squirming around and I just couldn’t do it. It got stuck to her. Luckily we got it off. She is peeping at the top of her lungs. I am very worried. I’m not sure what to do. I can’t tell if she is just startled or if something is wrong.

Thank you! Of course here are some pictures. I worry about these little baby’s a lot. They seem so fragile. I had 2 hatch in the past and didn’t make it. I would hate for it to happen again.

Thanks for the tag, but I only have ducks. I haven't dealt with any splay leg issues as of yet.
I've seen other folks on here try to make little splints out of rubber bands zip ties etc. I can't tell you if it would work.
I'm personally not one that wants to go too far trying to treat ones that hatch with issues.

Do you have any grip shelf liner stuff laying around or can you get some?

You can try putting this chick in a tall but narrow cup.
A small diameter cup so it forced the legs yo stay together.
Tall so it can't jump out.

You mentioned you hatched some before but they died.
Where do the eggs come from?
Do you have at least one calibrated thermometer in your bator?
What about a salt tested humidity gauge?
What was your humidity at?

If you try the cup you need something grippy like for it to stand in.
You can cup a kitchen towel or wash cloth to put at the bottom of a cup.
A shot glass might be a better size but you'd have to wrap something around it to make it tall...or maybe a paper towel or would work.

A little update...
She seems to be doing better. We got the band-aid off and she seems to be calming down. All of the other chicks are running around worried. Thank goodness for this website. These chicks are so small, making those little splints and putting them on is very hard. I don't want to stress them out too much, but I feel bad not doing anything. Thank you all for being so helpful. I panicked when I heard them chirping a lot louder than usual. I came to this website asap, I always read articles on here but never signed in and asked questions.
