We have one Red Sexlink chicken that is 2 years old. For the last few months she has had egg problems and they have been getting worse continuously. She started off with no shelled eggs then we treated her with calcium and got better, and after a few months same thing happened but calcium didn’t work. And in the last month she has been brooding and going lethargic. After that we give her some food then she gets better and expels the egg at night on the roost and is active again. This has happened around once a week or two.

Today we got back from a trip and she was very lethargic and not good. I checked her vent and it was a MESS. There was all this membrane-ey stuff and blobs of something like egg whites. We then pulled it out and it was jammed inside the vent. We gave her an epsom salt bath and cleaned her vent and then she went to bed.

I left some pictures and would appreciate it if some of you could look at it and give some idea, thanks 😀.

Yes, she is in danger of infection from a collapsed egg, and also if she has salpingitis, and that's a possibility if the material is lash. (pus)

Any broad spectrum antibiotic will do. Amoxicillin, penicillin, Cephalexin, etc. The dosage depends on the antibiotic you have.

I have two Golden sex-links just two years old. They each have had recurring infections needing antibiotics. I've heard these production breeds have all sorts of reproductive issues. But I never thought I'd be facing them this soon. Mine have recovered after being on an antibiotic. But it probably won't be the last time.
