Hey everyone,
Today is day 35 with my broody hem sitting on eggs. No ducklings yet. Should I intervene at any point? I keep a thermometer where my baby nests and the temp has fluctuated from 50s-80° is that a problem? I'm so nervous. Its mine and my hens first hatch and not sure what to do at this point.

Oh and on top of that I have a 2nd nest with 30 eggs and counting and none of my other hens are going broody!! An incubator isnt in the budget for another week, I know some of the eggs just wont make it. :hit

Have you ever candled the eggs under the broody? Did she get off the nest much?

35 days is just a guideline. With the crazy temp swings, I wouldn’t worry too much yet, they could still hatch in the coming days. Definitely not time to intervene.

She rarely comes off the nest. The last time I was able to candle one was at about day 24. I candled 3 and they looked good.l then she realized I was there and let's just say broodys bite hard! I haven't been able to candle them since.

Ok guys I still gave no ducklings. I'm starting to freak out. I dont smell anything when sticking my head into the duck house where the nest is at. The hen is still sitting on it not letting me near it. I've contemplated taking one from underneath her to candle it but I've read that handling an egg this close to hatch date can harm it.
