PLEASE??? IDENTIFY??? Rooster has a LARGE HARD MASS growing behind his ear...PHOTO!!!

Iodine treatment seems to be shrinking this a little more each day!!! I wish I would have done this earlier,
but I was afraid of staining it and making it look like blood and causing the other chickens to peck him.
I been putting Iodine on " SOAKING it " with a cosmetic brush dipped in the IODINE ... basically letting it run off the brush so I can control where it lands on him.
I am doing this at Bedtime and by morning its dry so that wet blood look isn't present just orange looking, Hens don't seem to notice LoL
I will try and take more pics of this soon and post the progress.
Thank you all for your time and input!

Merle passed away about 10 days after we remove half of this! Sometimes I think we should just let nature take it course...... :(

I am very sorry to hear about your baby, it is so hard to lose companion pets as we get so attached to them. My heart goes out to you and your baby. I am sorry I just joined in and that it is already too late. I believe that your chicken had a Dermoid Cyst. There is nothing you can do but surgically remove it. The iodine only dried out the moist sebum under all the crust and that is why it shrank so much. This is actually a very rare disease among animals. (It is not contagious) I have seen it in chickens, cats, a dog, parrot and ferrets and I also have a horse that currently has them. I have turned into an animal surgeon because he had so many that my vet had to train me how to remove them. Flies and parasites make them worse b/c they irritate them causing them to grow and rupture. Though it rarely happens, these dermoid cysts can start growing in the internal organs and there is no other option other than to euthanize :( For some reason, the cysts seem to come out in the warmer months and go dormant in the colder months, but not always. I hope this helps just incase anyone of you come across something like this again. Normally any Avian vet or general vet can remove these cysts for you. The trick to help keep them at bay is to do anything and everything to boost their immune system to the max. I have my horse on herbal immune boosters, garlic and liposomal vitamin C and so far he has had no eruptions in a year :)
