I was always told that a dark pied was for example an IB Dark Pied has a throat latch only or might have a white flight as well. here is a picture of again my IB hen plit charcoal split pied to me she is a "dark pied" she shows only the throat latch.Patch is out of my pied hen and IB split white peacock and while he does not have big white patches like his sister he has white on his legs, his rear and has molten colored feet, i call that a dark pied for sure.
yes a split to white bird will from what I was told always have white flights (primaries).
If they are on top of primary 1-10 they are primary coverts.
