The most frustrating thing about all this is having to wait years for the bird to mature and then wait for the young to do the same.

See i am just the opposite i like to watch them grow i learn more about them and how their habits change as they mature and i love babies anyhow

Patch is out of my pied hen and IB split white peacock and while he does not have big white patches like his sister he has white on his legs, his rear and has molten colored feet, i call that a dark pied for sure.

@Yoda and @zazouse , I'm confused... are both of you saying that every pea that has a small white throat patch and white primary *coverts* and *no white primaries* is split to pied? Just curious...

I was always told that a dark pied was for example an IB Dark Pied has a throat latch only or might have a white flight as well. here is a picture of again my IB hen plit charcoal split pied to me she is a "dark pied" she shows only the throat latch.



I found this on Legg's website: Dark Pied birds are solid colored with White throat latches and or White flights

yes a split to white bird will from what I was told always have white flights (primaries).
India Blue to White produces all India Blue split to White. These birds will show white feathers in the flights and/or throat latch.
India Blue Pied to India Blue Pied produce 25% White, 50% India Blue Pied and 25% India Blue Dark Pied. These Dark Pied birds are solid colored with White throat latches and or White flights.
White to India Blue Dark Pied produce all India Blue Pied.
India Blue split White to India Blue split White produces 25% White; 50% India Blue split White and 25% India Blue.
Black Shoulder to White produces all India Blue chicks split Black Shoulder and split White.

I may need to take another picture, but to be clear, are the white feathers on my birds wing Primary Coverts or Secondaries?

If they are on top of primary 1-10 they are primary coverts.

So what does it mean if they don't have a white throat or white primary feathers, but do have white primary coverts?
