maybe she ate something that disagreed with her? I dunno if chickens get constapated.... try giving her yogurt. Something gooey that may flush it out of her system. hope she feels better...

You should be able to find the Hypericum in the Holistic section of any good natural food store. It comes in a little vial (took me just about forever to figure out how to get the pellets out). It also comes in different doses, I think 30 and 12 are what you will find. I think that I read that it doesn't really matter which you get.

I tried it on my hen, she couldn't walk at all, and also wouldn't eat or drink. I force fed her for 3 weeks. The necropsy was suspected Marek's. But I am all for trying anything when it comes to our birds. None of my other birds have been sick since, so maybe not Marek's. Like you, I had another hen die at the same time, and she went FAST. In the AM she looked a little under the weather and by early afternoon she was gone. I had to go to work so there was nothing I could do. It is hard to lose them.

I believe that OC Chick finally had to have her bird put down. It did rally for a few days after the Hypericum.

I hope things work out for you. If you have to have her put down (I hope NOT), think about having a necropsy done. Some states offer them for free or cheap for backyard flock owners. Ask your county AG dept.

What strength St Johns wart? How much, for how long? In the water?

Oh, gosh. I have no idea off the top of my head. Honestly, I just grabbed whatever was at the store. The instructions are on BYC, though. Do a search for Hypericum and you'll find them. What I did was take a small amount of distilled (MUST be distilled, apparently) water, I think it was a tablespoon but it'll say on the directions if you can find them, I broke open a capsule of St. Johns wart and poured it in, let it dissolve for a bit and the syringe fed it to Chicky Baby. I believe I did it twice a day and within several days she was up and walking again. May be a coincidence, but it's absolutely worth a shot, in my opinion. Another thing that I remember is not being able to use metal utensils. I used a glass bowl and a plastic spoon.

Well muffy is still in the house, still the same and it has been since 2/10. The vet doesnt see anything wrong we have given her all types of meds she hasnt laid an egg in about a week and a half now. She is lively and in no pain but still cant stand. I think her time is coming unfortunatly.
