Please please help! Chick has a tbin stand of cord still attached.

That would be a fab, thank you. Hes still dragging his egg around by a thread! Really want him to make it, my incubator stinks, there is one egg left but i think its a dudd. Other than a crack that i think was caused by the others theres no sign of pipping. Today being day 24 im wondering when you toss?

Was yours dragging its shell around?
Yes, and without a good close-up I can't tell on yours, but once the"cord" completely dried I just snipped off at the egg. But I think you hold off untill one of the others I've tagged chimes in. Always good to get a second opinion.;)
And I'd toss the other egg. It could burst and stink up the whole house! lol

Thanks for your advice, i was just concerned incase there was a chick inside, seeing as one had hatched today was wondering if it could be another late one? Would that be the smell?

I am wondering,, did you help these chicks out of their shells ???
If the eggs are hatching, the temp must be close to OK.
It is OK to compare thermometers, but DO NOT take the average of the two.. what if they are both off in the high range,, or in the low range.
then you will still be either high or low..
pick a thermometer that has worked well in the past and use just that one..

do not set the chick on paper towel or cloth. that will absorb the moisture out of the yolk.. not a good thing..

have another drink....

I didnt help them at all, both that have had yolk sacks have both take nearly 24 hours from pip to hatch. The one that hatched yesterday was three hours start to finish and is looking fantastic.
Thanks for advice on thermometers, i will definitely heed this.
Glad you have said about paper towel, i would never of known this.
Do you think i should toss the other egg which has a crack? I think the others caused it, but the incubator stinks so bad. Wasnt sure if that was the empty shell and where the others had been in it. Its day 24 today and ive had hatches on day 22,23 and 24

Yes, try to candle it to see if there's life, otherwise toss it. If the incubator already smells, I worry that it might explode and spread horrible badness.
If your chick is still attached to the stringy thing, you can do what we do to the umbilical cord for baby mammals- tie it off close to the chick if it doesn't already seem dried and stringy (this is to avoid bleeding from any vessels) cut it off, and dip the end in a disinfectant such as iodine.

Thats what is concerning me, i dont want yukky stuff everywhere, but obviously it needs to be dark to candle?when you say the it off, i assume with a bit of cotton? I feel if i do that it would literally detach as its so so thin, would that be ok?
