Please pray for a Christmas miracle!Update on Sammy

No updates yet this morning.
The statistics say that 35% of birds sold a year will need a rescue. Only room for 1% of them. Makes you wonder what happens to the other 34%.
Why do people impulse buy animals? When I had a pet store I actually refused sales to some people. I had a couple come in to buy a bird. Her statement was"Lets buy a parrakeet, they're cheap. " If it dies we won't be out of that much money". they had recently lost a newly purchased conure from something unknown. Started explaining about how you have to change things in your home because of their sensitiviy to chemicals and such. Turns out that she is an avid candle burner. She decided that she didn't want an animal that she'd have to change her life for.
I haven't burnt a candle in 13 years,my teflon pans were thrown out the day I brought home my first parrot. I use no airsols or strong smelling cleaners in my house. Heck,I ruined a self cleaning oven with cleaners and SOS pads because I couldn't run it because of teflon coating.
My sons call them siblings, they are my children.

Your in our thoughts. I love macaws.

Sadly the only parrots who have found their way to me are 2 cockatoos and a conure. My other conure was purchased. Don't get me wrong I love my birds. And like you no Teflon, aerosols, candles, air fresheners, etc. I came home one day and smelled an air freshener. I ripped it out of the wall and told my roommate when he got home that I told him that wasn't allowed in this house.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Haven't hard anything ye on the tests. They did call and tell me that she made it through the night and seems a little stronger today. She's showing interest in food. Still has some fluid in her crop and tummy. But it sounded like it's going down a little.
I put 2 oil paintings up for bid in the everything else for sale section. The money raised will go straight to a Sammy fund to help defray the vet costs.
I will update as soon as I hear something more. Thanks again and PLEASE keep the prayers coming. They seem to be helping.

Sammy is doing alot better! She tested negative for all infectious deseases. Ate quite a bit of seeds today, better hydrated and alot more active.YEAH!!
Tomorrow they're going to ultrasound her and test her kidneys. So we will be positive if it can be treated.
Keep the prayers coming and THANK you all for the wishes!!!

Just posting to let you know I'm thinking of you and your Sammy. Hope everything turns out alright!

aww I'm sorry that you're having bird problems. We have 6 Parakeets, 2 Cockatiels, and lots of Zebra Finches. We lost one of our finches, who was hatched from our adult finches. No idea why. We found him in the bottom of the cage, when he was still young, but was eating on his own, etc. Put him in separate cage, but after a few hours of hopping around on the ground, he began breathing strangely. I picked him up and patted him and said good bye, and he died in my hands. It was very sad.

BUT anyways, That's the past.

And remember, no matter what happens, you did all you could. You gave her a nice home so she wouldn't suffer in those other bad homes with those bad owners. You gave her love and took great care of her. You're a very good bird owner!

Good luck and God bless you!
