Please send healing vibes for Petey.

Trama will cause swelling....... I must repeat myself again... get him on a good antibiotic... bite wounds are nasty and cause bad infections. The infection will kill him if you don't get a handle on it. If you got a dog bite, I'm sure you would get treated with a stronger antibiotic than tetracycline, same in his case. I use Baytril (from a vet) or penicillin, amoxicillin...... etc.... I don't like to use meds if I don't have to... but you are basically treating a broken leg with a band-aid. I'm not trying to sound mean, but I'm worried about him and the more time the infection has spreading, the harder it will be on him to bounce back. I would also give it to the hen with the swollen leg.

Not mean at all... Informative. I am on the hunt for the penicillin or the fish kind you talked about. We also plan on treating him for either respiratory infection or coryza today.

I am very pleased to report that he is still alive and doesn't look too much worse than yesterday. The NEOSPORIN has "pain relief" in it too. Is that okay for eyes?

Petey will probobly end up going to the vet today. I can't stand to see him suffer. He's definitely got his fighting spirit. I am able to get all the puss out of the eyes just by opening them and spraying the saline in there.

I don't think he has a respiratory infection, more an infection caused by the bites and stress, if you got socked in one eye you face swells up, even though it was just an eye injury.... or people who have nose surgery done, have their eyes get black and swollen..... any injury to the face/neck causes a lot of swelling. A vet visit would be great, if they give baytril that will really take care of the infection quickly. Avoid neosporine with pain relief ending in caine, as it is suppose to be toxic to chickens. Regular neosporine is fine, soothing eye drops like natural tears etc... is good, or the Vectricine spray, but the vet will probably give you the terrimycian eye ointment to put in his eyes or perhaps a steroid to combat the swelling. Best Wishes

This vet has seen peteys sister before when she broke her legs and absolutely loved her. I called the feed store and they have injectable penicillin!

I hope you realize how much I truly appreciate all of your knowledge and help. This has made me feel a lot better as his other thread has seemed to come to the conclusion of coryza that has now come out due to the stress of the attack.

You're welcome, I just want him to get better for you.

Okay he just had his penicillin shot. I realized while looking for the breast muscle that Petey has lost a lot of weight. I hope he is showing signs of being better by tomorrow morning. The puncture wound on his back looks clean and is not oozing but the skin around it is turning bluish green, I think it is bruised.
I put the Terramycin inside of his eyelids and also on the lid line. He has since opened his "good eye" for the first time today.

Keeping my fingers crossed. He was fightin me less and that worries me. He is drinking now though, and hough he can't see the food or water he is actually seeming to be okay with taking it down when I give it to him. As far as the weight thing- his crop is full so I don't know why he's lost weight.

Come in Petey!

She seems well. She is gimpy but can still run and walk. She seems bright and alert. When I take Petey out for cleaning and feeding she calls for him and he always answers back no matter what I'm in the middle of doing to him.

Did I mention that Petey is only six months old? He just barely started figuring all of this rooster stuff out and has already fought off three or four coons and saves one o his hens. I'm so proud of him!
