I'm generally more sympathetic to people in a grocery store than I am at say, the bookstore or movie theater.
Sometimes, you have no choice but to go to the grocery (especially if it doubles as your pharmacy) when you are sick.
However, you should get in, get what you need, and get out. No browsing, especially over the produce.
Yeah, last time I was sick there was NO food. I really really needed some soup, so I had to go out. I had a sore throat so bad that if it wasn't liquid I couldn't eat it. So I went and got soup, applesauce, popcicles, ice cream, etc. while I was waiting on my 'script.
Every job I've ever had the boss would guilt trip you if you called in sick. If you were sick for more than 3 days you had to go on FMLA leave, which was a lot of paperwork and crap.
I was so sick once with the regular flu, fever so bad I could barely hold up the phone, but my boss was like "can't you just take some medicine or something, we really need you"
Yeah. Right.
Needless to say, I learned to just not call at all - - which sometimes is viewed as "even worse than calling in" I guess it just depends on your particular boss.
