Hi, I had another topic going about another issue, and then the eye issue came up, I figured I would start a new thread to deal with the eye issue,

Here is the other thread.
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...-change-though-there-different-life-stages/10

He is about 7 Months old.
I have Tylan 200 with 22 GA and 30 GA Needles,
His, eye does not look swollen to me, his eye lids do seem opened more as you can see more skin toward the front of his eye in front of his eyeball, I have had him for two weeks and it has looked like this the whole time, It has not changed, his head is bald from being picked on at his former home.

Thanks

I think you're off to a great start... You have Tylan 200 (tylosin 200mg/ml, four times stronger than Tylan 50) and Safeguard for Goats/Cattle ( Fenbendazole 100mg/ml). Now all you have to do is pick a dose and delivery method for both.

If he were my bird, I would give him 1.4cc's (that's 50mg/kg) of Safeguard orally in a 1cc syringe (.7cc in two syringes) and I would repeat that in 10 days. Of course I would weigh him at day ten and adjust the amount accordingly.

As for the Tylan, let me start by saying that I would not inject any around his eye. I'm not saying that one should never do this, I just don't think that it's needed in your case. Injection or oral, it's up to you, I'd do oral, but that's just because it's easier for me. Don't get me wrong, I'll be the first to give a horse an *IV* or IM shot... And I have given plenty of shots and subcutaneous fluids to birds, oral is just easier, for me.

The amount of Tylan one should give is something that I know nothing about. If you wanted to know how much Baytril, Clavamox, Cephalexin or Ampicillin to give, I could tell you what I have done. From what the one vet book says, I think that the max dose of Tylosin is 40mg/kg 2 to three times a day. I'm still researching it.

I am unsure also, I have heard 1/2 cc once and others have said given for a few days, I have no clue and I don't want to start with out some info. Is there stuff I should look out for and keep and eye on? I did worm them using ivermectin Pour on about a week ago.

Off the top of my head, I think that the Plumbs book say 10-40mg/kg 2-4 times a day, but I don't recall if it mentioned number of days. The general rule of thumb is to give antibiotics 2-3 days past cessation of symptoms., I think. Very few antibiotics are given just once.
