Please tell me about your experiences with Purina Starter/Grower

I have always had great results from using Purina feeds

I'm in Oklahoma, the kind they do best on is from Shawnee Mills, just says Shawnee Mills (Medicated) on the bag. We've got another company called Stillwater Milling but I've had horrible luck with their feed and won't use them anymore.

How do you know the chickens were/are actually suffering from a vitamin defeciency?

I have raised chickens for 20+ years, for most of those years I have used Purina feeds. Shucks I been using it so long I remember when Purina had a seperate Starter and a Grower feed, not like today a Starter/Grower combination feed. Never had a batch of chicks or adults with food/dietary problems. Let'em eat all they want, keep it in front of them 24/7.

TSC sells Dumor brand feeds, they make a chick Starter/Grower with 20% protien, a dollar or two cheaper than Purina. The 10 - 6 week old pullets I bought last Friday are doing pretty good on it. Smells way different than the Purina.

I am currently using Purina starter/grower and the flock raiser, I think I might have the laying crumbles also. I have switched many times when Purina wasn't available so i have a variety(could open my own feed store) lol I like Purina best so now i won't buy any thing else(live and learn). ~Julie~

I have a Silkie hen who always gets black, stinky poop when she has the medicated Purina starter crumbles. We switched to Purina flock raiser, and she is once again gorgeous and has good poops.

Honestly I never found out what the "medicated" part is. Do they put antibiotics in it? So, since ours freerange out in the sun all day, they are encouraged to encounter coccidia(s) and develop immunity the average, live chicken normal way. So far, they're better and gorgeous and happy on the Purina flockraiser crumbles.

We only buy the tiny ziploc baggie of Purina starter, just for the first week or so of hatching. But that poor Silkie hen feeds it to her chicks and gets sick, then gets better a day after switching off the "medicated" starter crumbles. It's happened every time.

I switched to Purina from Dumor this year and have not had any issues at all. The poop sitnks less to be honest. I use the medicated starter and the quality has been very consistent.

I've fed flock raiser to everyone for a few years - from the day olds to the old farts - and all have done well on it. No complaints here.
