This chicken we got as a one week old in the beginning of May. All we can say for sure is that it is 1/2 Ameracauna. He/She does not crow and has a very soft voice when he/she clucks. Still has a little of the baby chicken voice and cheeps. He/she is very low on the ranks and is most terrified of the rooster. Will display very dominant behavior with smaller chickens though and will flare at the neck but has never shown a desire to act like a rooster: dancing, mounting, etc. Wondering/hoping if the larger tail is maybe some game chicken in the breeding?

I am still on the fence about Clem - does s/he have any new shiny pointy feathers growing in at the base of the tail? The body shape looks like a boy to me. Also my EE is 2 months older and her comb just turned red in the last couple weeks.

Sorry! I hope Clem turns out to be Clementine!

Looks like a Clem to me but I'm hoping is a clementine for you! I know how you feel. My husband and I were hoping our brahma was a hen ( i've never had them so they're new to me ) my husband swore it was a hen... I've just convinced him it's a roo.

Yeah I agree with the majority here and that is such a sad thing to admit! We have limited space so if Clem is a boy we will probably have to find a new home for either our cochin and first bird ever, Scooter, or our newest man of the coop, a gorgeous mutt rooster named Brutus. We raised Clem from chickhood and love him/her dearly so we couldn't possibly get rid of him/her in any capacity. I am just hoping that the gangly features are from a weird mixing and that he/she will suddenly plump up and lay an egg lol. I figure the bird to be about 20 weeks old-kind of old to not crow huh? Oh well....still hopeful but figuring the majority is right. Clem is incredibly long-featured to be a pullet...thanks for the compliments on Clem! I hope he/she gets past this awkward phase and fills out soon. Does it count at all if he/she CONSTANTLY takes dirt baths and likes to lay on his/her side rolling around a lot?
