PLEASE tell me some bad things about Polish!

I have had quite a few and they were always horrid layers. Sporadic, at best. As in, sometimes went weeks, even months, without laying. (And no, not just in the Winter.)

I had two polish, a hen and roo. I kept them with the rest of my big girls and they did just fine till I introduced new chickens. The roo was first to start getting his tophat picked on so I got rid of him then the really cold weather came and my hens didn't wanna come outside to play so she started getting picked on. I took her out and she left last week for a new home.

well..i've heard they wernt to smart.....

I can't help you. Well, maybe I can. They are often loners because they lose the flock. I do let mine free range with the big girls, she follows the other feet. But she starts to peck the ground, they leave, and she is left there wondering how to get back. She does make it, but she sometimes looks so lonely. And I have a roo and a hen....she still looks lonely.

I have two girl, GL and a SL. The Gold laced is names Cleveland. When she was a baby she would sit in my daughters cleavage hence the name) to keep warm. We thought she was a boy so we named her Cleveland. She comes when we call her. The other one is Sylvia (Silver Laced hence the name) she also come when we call her. For the first few months they were flighty and couldn't see. But as they gotten older (a year in Feb/Mar) the feathers around their eyes have receded back, not sure why but they can see pretty well now. Anyways, we love them

The local lady who has a managerie of breeds claims that her Polish are by far the more aggressive and pick on her other birds. She has to keep the Polish with the Polish, and even then have to watch for those getting picked on.

I've heard that because of their skull design they are prone to head injuries.

I saw some gorgeous white crested black polish bantams this weekend. They were puppy dog tame and the woman showing them was really friendly. She obviously put some time in her birds. I have a photo in the camera and will post it sooner or later.

My buff laced cockerel is a sweetie with me but loves some of the ladies a bit too much. He gets a lot of time outs from the girls until he settles down.
